Did you know that the early Gilley families were instrumental in fighting for this country’s independence during the Revolutionary War? As such, they are listed as patriots in the book Cavaliers and Pioneers, Abstracts of Virginia Land Patents and Grants published by the Virginia Genealogy Society. Francis had two sons that fought in multiple battles in Virginia and the Carolinas, and the book lists their service in great detail. What a rich heritage to have!
